2026
Installation, Paltz Biennale, Soest
Dimensions: 600 × 150 cm
Materials: stainless steel, aluminium, sand and 3D-printed sculptures
This kinetic installation forms a colony of segmented sculptures that appear to grow out of the ground. The 3D-printed segments are finished with sand coatings in a range of earth tones, drawn from the soil of De Paltz.
Driven by motors, the elements rise with slow, barely perceptible movements, searching for a balance that is never definitively reached.
The work explores entrainment: the mutual attunement of rhythms. Its subtle movements invite a meditative attention, in which viewers can gradually tune in to the tempo of the installation. Technology approximates the behaviour of natural systems, evoking a seemingly living presence.
Because the sculptures partly disappear into the ground, the boundary between object and landscape blurs. In the human-shaped environment of De Paltz, the work appears as a further layer: a system between organism and construction that seems to be continuously growing and taking shape.
