HINTERLAND

In the heart of the dark Lumière forest, visitors encounter a shimmering transparent chamber, a space where nature’s familiar shapes and colors are warped into strange, futuristic forms. A surreal vision of a near-future world where the boundaries between natural and artificial dissolve. At the center of this space lies a smaller, second room: a miniature diorama encapsulating a tree that disappears behind the prismatic glass.

HINTERLAND, by artists Heleen Blanken and Marieke Nooren, invites visitors to step across a temporal threshold, a passage between what we once knew and a future we can barely comprehend. It is a moment of disorientation, where we must face the unsettling truth: everything is already changing. The hinterland becomes a metaphor for this state of in-between, a place we don’t fully understand, but must learn to recognize as our new reality.
